Whole-Body Cryotherapy on Long Island

Frequently Asked Questions

Whole body cryotherapy is a treatment that exposes the client's or patient's whole body—in most cases with the exception of the head—to a pool of extremely cold air for two to three minutes. Whole-body cryotherapy is often also referred to simply as cryotherapy.

In whole-body cryotherapy, temperatures generally range between -80°C / -110°F and -110°C / -160°F in electric machines, and between -110°C / -160°F and -160°C / -250°F for liquid-nitrogen systems. These temperatures are achieved with coolants such as liquid nitrogen or with refrigerants.

Cryotherapy is used for conditioning of the human body in sports recovery, physiotherapy, beauty, and wellness. Many clients use cryotherapy as part of their regular recovery routine.

Cryotherapy boosts energy levels, speeds up recovery, and has a generally positive effect on the body.

Cold exposure may stimulate thermoregulation and brown-fat activity, which plays a role in heat production and energy use. However, cryotherapy is not a standalone fat-loss treatment. It is best used alongside exercise, nutrition, and other Apex recovery modalities to support a complete metabolic-health program.

Cryotherapy greatly improves the effects of exercise and, from users' experiences, can also help the user keep going by alleviating after-effects of intense activity that may otherwise reduce motivation for further exercise.
